Robin Thicke Keeps it Young, Doing it for The Grown and Sexy.

Robin Thicke has always been a man rooted in the sensuality of his lyrics and performance, but this time around Thicke has jumped from sensual to sexy and it works for him. On his new release Sex Therapy: The Experience, Robin Thicke takes on the job of being a sex therapist with his smooth melodies and libido charging lyrics being the cure for anyone who needs a little help in that department. The classic falsetto is still there but he changes it on some songs, singing more songs in his lower register. Attempting to appeal to a younger crowd this time around, the album is full of guests such as Kid Cuddi (“Elevatas”), Snoop Dogg (“Its In The Mornin”), Estelle (“Rollacoasta”), Jazmine Sulivan and everybody’s new favorite go to female rapper Nicki Minaj, who “assists” on “Shakin It For Daddy” and Jay- Z who adds to the fun on the “Meiple” a light hearted track that brings to mind vacays on the yacht in St. Barths. Besides “Meiple”, none of the collaborations really add anything special to the album. Its not that they are bad though, but Thicke shines the most on his own with syrupy ballads, like “2 Luv Birds” and bossa Nova tinged tracks like “Mona Lisa” and “Jus Right” with features smooth sensual flamenco style guitar that exudes baby making sex appeal. When it’s all said and done, Robin Thicke is doing “sexy” better than some of his counterparts out there, making Sex Therapy the perfect blend of crass, class and romance.

I feel bad because I only own his sophmore album, and need to explore his first recording, third, and this one. I hear people talking about this new one pretty tough, but I guess, sex has always been a part of his schtick, so why are folks surprised? I’ll check all these out, good write-up.-QH
