Teddy Pendergrass died Wednesday night in Bryn Mawr Hospital in Philadelphia at age 59.The singer’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II confirmed the news through various news sources. Pendergrass II stated that his father underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had “a difficult recovery.” As many may know, the soul legend was injured in a car accident in 1982 that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He spent six months in a hospital but returned to recording the next year. He has been somewhat reclusive since then. Teddy is known for his rich soulful voice that was played in the bedrooms in the homes of millions of people. “Turn Off The Lights” and “Love T.K.O” are some of the songs which our generation may be more familiar with, but real music heads and your parents are probably well aware of his catalog. As more and more of our legends pass away, its imperative that we give them their due while they’re still here to appreciate.
