Directv replaces Sirius XM with Sonic Tap

A
ny music head who was/is a Directv customer has surely taken note of the music only stations located in the 800′s of the channel section. Originally Directv provided MusicChoice content, and then switched to XM and finally SiriusXM after the merger a year or two back. Now, for some odd reason, DirecTV has replaced its Sirius XM music content with music services from SonicTap. What makes the switch even more bizarre is the fact that Liberty Media, who owns Directv, also has a 40 percent share of Sirius XM ownership too. So you’d think they would keep the money in house right?
Some of the stations have suffered though, for example the equivalent to what use to be “SiriusXm Love” is now called “Love Songs” , but the problem is, they play any and every love song. The mix use to be much more a smooth adult contemporary mix, heavy on 70′s and 80′s ballads. Think Carole King, Lionel Ritchie, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Bread, Ambrosia, Phil Collins, Genesis, Celine Dion etc. So how the hell did the manage to add Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy is Mine” to that crew? To their defense, the mix has gotten a bit better since the takeover first occurred but it is still not quite right. I’ve yet to hear Michael Bublé, Billy Ocean, Phill Collins or Rod Stewart! And Richard Marx! What’s an 70′s and 80′s heavy adult contemporary channel that doesn’t play Richard Marx? Here’s hoping they fix it!

Funny, I saw this while I was skimming through the listings on my box. The only station I’ve managed to listen to is the “Modern Workout”.
