ARE YOU READY TO FORGIVE CHRIS BROWN?

After Chris Brown’s much talked about performance last night on the 2010 BET Awards, people are once again bringing up Chris Brown’s impending redemption from the public’s scorn. Since February 2009, Brown has had music fans and the media alike divided on whether they should forgive the singer after he viciously assaulted Pop star and former girlfriend Rihanna the night before the 2009 Grammys.
Much of the disdain for Chris lies not only in his actions on the night of February 8th 2009, but also in how he handled the situation in the months after the incident. It what could only be described as a P.R nightmare, Brown committed every foul there was for him to make. There was so much deflecting and so much blame placed on irrelevant factors such as age and a history of domestic violence in his family. There are millions of young men that are currently 19 (The age Brown was during the incident) that wouldn’t have done what he did and there are millions of young men who have witnessed their mothers suffer from domestic abuse and wouldn’t dare to touch another woman in the same manner.
Flash Forward to June 27th, 2010 more than 15 months after the incident: Brown has just completed a rigorous dance tribute to Pop Icon Michael Jackson and the background track to Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” fills the Shrine Auditorium, where more than 30 years ago Michael himself debuted his moonwalk. Fans and guest expecting to hear Brown’s tenor voice are instead greeted with sobs of …redemption? They sure as hell didn’t look like they were Jackson. At this point the tribute was no longer about the illustrious dance moves Michael Jackson dazzled us with during his time here on earth. The gears shifted and this became about Chris Brown and whether the public was going to allow him to access success in the coming years. As industry heavyweights like Jermaine Dupri and Mary J. Blige tweet about crying during Chris’s performance, some are starting to question whether they have held a grudge against Brown for way too long. Others, however aren’t sold yet. One insider at Rihanna’s label said “If Rihanna was your sister, would one really good Michael Jackson tribute be enough to forgive him in your eyes?” When all is said in done, Are You Ready To Forgive Chris Brown?
