E! Newsis currently hyping up the fact that they have the world premiere of“Telephone”,we all know that this really couldn’t have been the case? A Gaga and Beyonce collaboration premiering only on E! News? No M’am Ms.Pam! The video will double premiere on Thursday playing on E!News at 11:30 and The 10-minute music video will be released to VEVO / YouTube at 12:00 AM right after the TV premiere. I’m going to assume that E! is not going to play the full 10 minute video so you’re best best is to catch it right here at 12:00 am. Check out GaGa! First video killed the radio star and then MTV killed the video! Gaga seems to be keen on bringing the Music Video back to epic proportions. Remember the days when a New Music video was an event? Now all we have are these “recessions specials”! It’s nice to see an artist take a bit more pride in the video and treat as art.
Any music head who was/is a Directv customer has surely taken note of the music only stations located in the 800’s of the channel section. Originally Directv provided MusicChoice content, and then switched to XM and finally SiriusXM after the merger a year or two back. Now, for some odd reason, DirecTV has replaced its Sirius XM music content with music services from SonicTap. What makes the switch even more bizarre is the fact that Liberty Media, who owns Directv, also has a 40 percent share of Sirius XM ownership too. So you’d think they would keep the money in house right?
Some of the stations have suffered though, for example the equivalent to what use to be “SiriusXm Love” is now called “Love Songs” , but the problem is, they play any and every love song. The mix use to be much more a smooth adult contemporary mix, heavy on 70’s and 80’s ballads. Think Carole King, Lionel Ritchie, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Bread, Ambrosia, Phil Collins, Genesis, Celine Dion etc. So how the hell did the manage to add Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy is Mine” to that crew? To their defense, the mix has gotten a bit better since the takeover first occurred but it is still not quite right. I’ve yet to hear Michael Bublé, Billy Ocean, Phill Collins or Rod Stewart! And Richard Marx! What’s an 70’s and 80’s heavy adult contemporary channel that doesn’t play Richard Marx? Here’s hoping they fix it!
The album cover for the classic Beatles album 'Abbey Road', which was shot on the street outside the studio
Though Abbey Road was opened in the 1930’s way before Beatlemania, the London recording studio is synonymous with the recording career of the Fab 4, and now that studio is up for sale! For just $20 Million you can own the studio and a part of music history. Owned by EMI for decades now, the recording company is selling the studio as a way to save money. I wonder if Paul McCartney would be interested in purchasing the studio? This is just another sign of what the digital age is relegating classic recording spaces to. At least its just being sold and not torn down and turned into something different.
Though Dr. Dre parted from the label for over a 15 years now, Dr. Dre has sued the new iteration of Death Row Records claiming the label failed to pay him royalties due to him from a new version of his iconic Hip-Hop album “The Chronic” without his permission. Read the rest of the article over at Billboard.com Quite interesting. Apparently they’ve been selling a digital version of the album though his 20+ year old contract doesn’t include licensing for digital distribution. Let this be a lesson for all aspiring artists, know whats going on with your product at all times like Dre does so you can get your money and protect your brands.
Hidden Beach Record Label is suing Jill Scott after she has decided to leave midway through a 6 album contract.”Hidden Beach is shocked by her decision, not only because Scott has apparently chosen to leave the Hidden Beach family, but also because Scott is contractually required to deliver three more albums to Hidden Beach.” says Steve McKeever, the labels CEO. Scott is the label’s most prominent and successful artist. She is currently gearing up to do promo for the sequel to the 2007 hit Why Did I Get Married?. Wonder what grievances Jill has with the label?
Amid allegations that he has previously mishandled funds from Yele, including paying himself with money from the charity to perform at a charity event, Wyclef Jean himself took to the internet to denounce these terms. Check the video above and read the statement below.
Anyone who knows me knows that the one thing I love the most in the world is a good cruise vacation. Of the 5 cruises I’ve been on, 2 of them have been on the Royal Caribbean Line. Royal Caribbean own a private port in the northern coast of Haiti called Labadee. The 3,654-passenger Independence of the Seas will visit its port of call in Haiti today as scheduled — the first cruise ship to visit the Caribbean nation since Tuesday’s devastating earthquake. In addition to the thousands of pounds of food it has on the ship for its vacationers, Royal Caribbean associate vice president John Weis says the ships will also carry rice, dried beans, water, dried milk and a variety of other canned items to be distributed to the victims in the south in Port Au Prince.”This effort is going to be a marathon,” he says. This is great news as Aid is literally being held up at the airport due to the lack of ability to get it from the airport because of the small airport is not equipped to handle the amount of planes bringing aid.
Wyclef Jean and his wife headed to Haiti the exact same night the 7.0 magnitude Earthquake hit Haiti. Upon his arrival, Jean went into the streets to help pick up dead bodies from off the roads and attempt to find a place to bury the bodies.”We spent the day picking up dead bodies, all day that’s what we did. There’s so much bodies in the streets that the morgues are filled up, the cemeteries are filled up,” he told Fox News. Wyclef also states “The count is not 100,000 there’s at least, has to be four to five hundred thousand people that is about to die.” As we head upon 3 days since the devastating its imperative that donations and drives continue.
Teddy Pendergrass died Wednesday night in Bryn Mawr Hospital in Philadelphia at age 59.The singer’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II confirmed the news through various news sources. Pendergrass II stated that his father underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had “a difficult recovery.” As many may know, the soul legend was injured in a car accident in 1982 that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He spent six months in a hospital but returned to recording the next year. He has been somewhat reclusive since then. Teddy is known for his rich soulful voice that was played in the bedrooms in the homes of millions of people. “Turn Off The Lights” and “Love T.K.O” are some of the songs which our generation may be more familiar with, but real music heads and your parents are probably well aware of his catalog. As more and more of our legends pass away, its imperative that we give them their due while they’re still here to appreciate.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, by now you know that at 5pm est on January 13th, 2009, Hati experienced an Earth quake which measured a 7.0 on the Richter Scale. Homes, schools and government buildings have been damaged and this is a severe blow that the third world nation was not prepared to experience. It is times like these where its is important that the global community come together to help our fellow world citizens. Below you can find the multiple ways you can help.
1. Text| Singer Wyclef is well known for his work in his homeland of Hati. Your can text “YELE” to 501501 up to six times to donate $5USD to relieve efforts in Port Au Prince. You may also text “HAITI” to 90999 for a $10 USD contribution to be made
2. Donate Through the Web| Charities such as Unicef, The American Red Cross and Food for The Poor are currently making attempts to provide relief to Hatian citizens.
3. Start a Diaster Relief Drive at School/Church| Donating supplies and food is probably the easiest thing for you to do to help others. Ask your student council, student government or principals office about starting a drive. Our Tips? Have the drive run for about a month if possible. Dedicate Two weeks primarily for Non-perishable Food products such as Tuna, Soup, Cereal, Macaroni and Cheese, Corn Beef etc, and Dedicate t,he second two weeks to supplies and gently used articles of clothing such as Towels, Toiletries, Bandages, First Aid Kits, shirts, pants, diapers etc. Get in touch with your local American Red Cross branch to see what kind of materials are best to collect as well as how to organize a pick-up.
4 Awareness| Hati is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. When all is said and done, and the earthquake news leaves the headlines, this will remain to be true. Keep these charities in mind even after the initial relief efforts have occurred. Things don’t change in one day.

If you’re one of the 351,907 followers that Solange has on Twitter then you may be privy to the fact that the singer is currently is Austrailia for two weeks working on her new album. This will be the third studio album from Solange, and the latest since her critically acclaimed but low selling Sol- Angel and The Hadley Street Dreams, which featured the artist taking cues from Motown soul and electronica. Solange will be working with Aussie band Midnight Juggernauts whose sound is right up her weird, kooky, soul filled, funky, Cosmic Journey alley. Are you down for the ride? We are!
Ne-Yo shared this pic of him and Mariah Carey in the studio working on the remix to “Angels Cry”. As previously reported, Mariah Carey will be releasing two remix albums for Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel, one will be strictly dance club versions by remixer The Jump Smokers and the others will be pop/R&B remixes with well known artists such as R.Kelly, Trey Songz and Ne-Yo. The as yet-untitled Remix album is set for release on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. The project will be treated by the label as an entirely new project which means all new promotional stops! Apparently this shot was taken at the video set so I guess she’s going for a modern “One Sweet Day” type look? Girl, I guess.”Angels Cry” is slated for release to radio on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Actress Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ. The story is still developing but according to Perez Hilton, he and those whom are close to her saw this coming and he is placing the blame on her husband writer-director Simon Monjack. Pop Icon Janet Jackson arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport a couple days early for her Promotional appearances in the U.K. Janet, along with Lady GaGa will be performing on the final episode of “The X-Factor,” and may also possible be acting as a mentor for the talent much like artists do here on American Idol. Jackson will also be performing at Sunday’s Jingle Bell Ball, a huge radio station concert much like Z100’s Jingle Bell Ball here in New York. Janet’s latest single “Make Me” is currently number 6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs working towards her 19th number one on that chart. On a scale of 1 to 5 on the Crazy Beyonce scale of excitement, this comes in at 3! Can’t wait!

Check out Rihanna’s20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer below. My thoughts on this situation are the following. I don’t thinkRihannahas any reason to lie because the media has already painted her as the victim and taken her side. I think she told her story honestly and candidly. I also have a gripe with the fact that people are stating that she is doing this for promotion while ignoring that Chris was giving interviews left right and center over the past few months on this situation ( Larry King, Angie Martinez, Sway on MTV), doing the same thing trying to repair his image in the months leading up to his upcoming release. It should be noted she didn’t mention the new album at all during the new interview, nor did they play any of her new songs. I believe Rihanna did this interview so that she doesn’t have to talk about it on the rest of her promo stops. What are You thoughts on the Situation?

Chris Brown released a Statement in response to Rihanna’s interview stating
“While I respect Rihanna’s right to discuss the specific events of February 8, I maintain my position that all of the details should remain a private matter between us. I do appreciate her support and wish her the best. I am extremely sorry for what I did, and I accept accountability for my actions. At this point, I am taking the proper steps to learn about me and grow from my mistakes. I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well. Abuse of any kind is always wrong. The rest I leave it to God.”
