“WE ARE THE WORLD 25″ | American Artists team up to raise money for Haiti

Feb
13

After all the hype, here is the remake of “We Are The World”. Thoughts? I thought it’d be fun to do a Vibe style  questions for this.

1.  Don’t you agree Jennifer Hudson killed it!

2.  Did Janet voice sounds exactly like Michael Jackson’s or did the engineer totally forget to pull up her fader?

3. Why was Nicole Scherzinger in a shot every 2.5 seconds?

4. Wyclef= Whyclef?

5. Should we laugh or be upset at Jamie Foxx’s attempt to mimic Ray Charles on the tracks

6. Wasn’t P!nk’s performance the business? The whole cooperation?

7. Who picked Justin Bieber to open the song?

8. Couldn’t you have made that beat with a MIDI Keyboard and Pro-Tools

9. Does Enrique sound like he’s sexing on every song ?

10. Isn’t it amazing that Celine’s voice stayed the same for all these years, while some of her competition wouldn’t be able to hit those notes?

11. Auto Tune: I thought we were off that?

12.Auto Tune: I thought we were off that?

13. Seriously….Auto Tune: I thought we were off that?

14. No shade to Miley Cyrus, but she was given a solo over Brandy?

15. Did you notice how Rap took over the Rock vibe that the original had?

16. Were you surprised that LL Cool J’s voice dominated the rap section?

17. How many times are you actually going to listen to this?

18. Despite all of that, aren’t you glad the proceeds are going towards helping Haiti?

19. Will You be buying the single + Video

20. Are you going to visit www.World25.org for more info?

A few actors were in the studio (Jeff Bridges and Vince Vaughn), as well as the kids of co-producers Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, Nicole Richie and “Parks and Recreation” star Rashida Jones, and the members of 3T (the sons of Tito Jackson), Taj, Taryll and TJ Jackson. Hot or Not| “Still The Way Love Goes”

Jay Sean| “Still The Way Love Goes” (Ft. Thara)

Like a Moth to a flame, burned by the fire/ My love is blind can’t you see my desire?” Who doesn’t know those lyrics to the 1993 R&B classic “That’s The Way Love Goes” by Pop Icon Janet Jackson. Produced by Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Janet Jackson, the song was the song of the summer of 1993. U.K singer Jay Sean (famous for his 2009 hit “Down”) and R&B singer Thara teamed up to their own spin on the song, changing up the lyrics yet keeping the majority of the chorus in tact. Somehow in the process they mannaged to strip the sexiness and soul of the song with their version, but maybe that the Janet stan in us. What do you think? Take a listen and vote below!

Every year, MTVU showcases underground and new music voted best by college students on The Woodie Awards. This year is no different with new acts performing such as The Dead Weather, Death Cab For Cutie, and Matt and Kim who won best “Breakthrough Video” for their single “Lessons Learned.”  Nominees for Woodie of the Year include Kings of Leon,Silversun Pickups,Asher Roth,Drake, and MGMT. Check out the show Friday night at 10 p.m. on MTVU to see if your fav artists won.

Matt and Kim

Hailing from my hometown of Brooklyn, Matt and Kim are an eclectic duo. Using a keyboard and drums, they combine elements of dance, hip hop, and rock. Check out their video below for their single “Lessons Learned” in which they streak in Times Square. Loves it!

Another one of my faves this year is Massachusett’s own Passion Pit. Their first full length album was released this year and the songs have an upbeat, dance feel to them using synthesizers and electric guitars.  You might recognize their song “Sleepyhead” which was used for tv ads. Check out their video for their single, “The Reeling.” You can catch their live performance of  their song “Little Secrets” Friday night.
