We feel for Lil’ Mama here at Base Magazine. Besides the fact that she went to my high school, I also feel like critics and the media make it hard for her to catch a break, though in their defense her wild quotes she’s been dropping lately don’t help either. Nonetheless, its all about the music right? Well check out Lil Mama’s latest joint called “Hustler Girl”

J.COLE UNVEILS COLE WORLD: THE SIDELINE STORY ALBUM COVER

With the release date fast approaching, Roc Nation rapper J.Cole released the album cover for his highly anticipated debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story. Art Directed by Bestest Asbestos and photograped by Leann Mueller, Cole takes the sideline theme in the literal direction as he sits on a bench in a locker room. Not the most exciting cover, but I suppose we’re here for the music not the images.

Base Magazine was in the house at Roc The Mic Studios last week Wednesday for a listening session for J. Cole’s debut. On display was a hungry talent, eager to show the world what he made of and dispel any notion that may claim he wasn’t worthy of being signed by the likes of Jay-Z. With what we heard, Cole has a solid debut and little to worry about! Cole World: The Sideline Story hits stores on 9/27.

NEWS| FRANK OCEAN JOINS JAY-Z X KANYE’S ROYAL COURT

In news that shocks no one, Frank Ocean is apparently guesting on not one but two tracks off the highly anticipated Jay-Z/Kanye West collaboration, Watch The Throne. DMV blogged DDOT OMEN acknowledged that ‘Ye was playing tracks off the album at a video shoot for Big Sean’s “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay” single. Ocean joins Beyoncé as the only other performer on the LP besides the two rap heavyweights.

Frank is enjoying his “that n*gga” status at the moment. He’s in that perfect cusp of indie cred with mainstream sensibility and its no mistake that Kanye and Jay-Z have enlisted his services for the LP.

According to Hollywood Reporter Throne‘s production was handled by Yeezy, Hov, Swizzy, No ID, and Lex Luger. Check the song titles out below.

TV| BASKETBALL WIVES 3 + 10 REASONS WHY WE’LL BE WATCHING

Dear Lord, if this rapture f*ckery is real, please forgive me for wanting to watch the new season of Basketball Wives.

Basketball Wives, for me, is one of those reality shows that you never plan to watch. It just sort of happens. Somehow your television finds itself to VH1 in the middle of the night during a marathon and you get hooked in. Besides the fact that the show is horribly mis-titled (NONE of the principal cast is married to any basketball player of note), the program has managed to be entertaining… the kind of ratchet entertainment that the classy person you know yourself to be gives a shunning side eye to. And yet somehow the Shaunie O’Neal executive produced program beckons to the basic, inner uncouth portion of all of us. Sigh.

So it is with great disdain…and some pleasure that I watched the Basketball Wives 3 trailer. Check it below and then check our ten reason why we have to tune in when it starts.

10. Cause watching Shaunie O’Neal continue to exploit these girls for all they’re worth and they don’t even notice is hilarious. You need to look no further than her kind suggestion last season that Evelyn tell Tami she slept with her ex-husband knowing FULL WELL that was going to cause drama. Shaunie ain’t shit. And you love It.

9. Cause we have to find out what Jennifer’s dull ass is going to do without Eric’s coins. That cosmetic line she was hawking last season kinda went nowhere, didn’t it?

8. Cause watching Susie low-key try and crawl her way back into the “crew” is hilarious and sad all at once. They don’t want her no mo’. Katy Jackson style

7. Cause we need to see this Evelyn + Ochocinco tom foolery live in action. In-vitro fertilization? Twins? How long have they even been engaged?

6. Cause that shook look Evelyn gets every time Tami gets a little too close is hilarious.

5. Cause for a small chick, Royce goes “hard in the paint”. That being said, wouldn’t the show be 10x more interesting if she could actually mention her baby daddy (note: not husband or former husband, but baby daddy) Dwight Howard?

4. Cause this new chick Mika don’t know what the hell she’s getting into.

3. Cause Tami has no couth….none whatsoever and its completely entertaining.

2. Cause Evelyn Vs. Royce round 2 is going to be hilarious.

1. Cause we have to see Tami give Evelyn the beatdown she so rightfully deserved for calling her a “Non-Motherfucking Factor” and trying to profit off of it?…

NEWS| NATHANIEL “NATE DOGG” HALE DIES AT 41

Nate Dogg, the smooth voiced baritone singer who beasted on some of the best hooks in west coast flavored rap in the 90′s and 00′s passed away at 41 on Tuesday. The cause was complications of a stroke, said his manager, Rod McGrew. Although many uninformed mainstream music sites are referring to Nate Dogg as a rapper, singing is where his strengths were. He made his mark with Warren G & Snoop Dogg but is also known for collaborations with Ludacris, 50 Cent, Fabolous, Mos Def and Pharoahe Monch. The New York Times’ Jon Caramanica wrote a great, informative piece about Nate Dogg, read it here.

Base Magazine would like to extend condolences to the Hale Family. Now more than ever, it’s time to start taking better care of yourselves. Dying at 41 from complications from two strokes is not the way to leave. Take care of yourselves!
