Nonetheless, while this a great promo move can you imagine the amazingly awkward moments that are sure to a occur when Britney tells someone their performance lacked energy or they were missing stage presence? Ever since her breakdown a few years back, Spears has lost all sense of the outgoing personality she once had and moreover, her own stage shows now include little more than half-assed arm choreography and lip-synced vocals. We’ve been in the UK for the past couple of months, so we’re getting hip to all the tunes and artists the folks on this of the pond are loving, which includes a new artist: Jai Paul.

Some of you are already inadvertently familiar with the songwriter and record producer, who hails from the London area of  Rayners Lane, from his vocal sample at the beginning of  Beyoncé’s energizing, Afro beat inspired diddy “End of Time“. The clever “Don’t Fuck With Me, Don’t Fuck Me” refrain sampled in the song is taken from his song “BTSTU” which hit the net in March of last year.

Quickly snatched up by XL Recordings, home to acts like Adele, The xx and Tyler the creator, the enigmatic 23 year old has been avoiding the press like the plague and luxuriating in the mystery of it all as he prepares his debut album.

Paul signature seems sound seems to be a warm and unfortunately unintelligible  falsetto vocal that calls to mind the vocal aesthetic of the likes of Maxwell and and Robin Thicke. Its his productions however, that set the Brit apart: warbling bass and synth riffs, clean drums create a smooth hybrid between digital and analogue and an undeniable groove. Congrats to Beyonce for making the top of the list for People magazine’s “Most Beautiful Woman.” The new mom was quoted in People as saying, “I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth. I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this Earth.” This is only the second time a black woman has graced the cover with Halle Berry being the first. It’s interesting to see what society considers beautiful or not and that there’s even a ranking that publicizes it so people can judge for themselves. Hit boy band The Wanted finally released their self-titled debut U.S. EP today. The EP contains songs from the group’s first two albums as well as two new songs, “Satellites” and “Chasing The Sun.”  Along with the EP, the boys decided to treat fans to the music video for their third single, “Chasing The Sun.” The video pretty much starts out like all the rest: partying, girls, and clubs. However, towards the end, there’s a little twist that makes the video a tad more interesting. Take a look below!

So what’d you guys think? I definitely like the song a whole lot more after seeing the video and them perform it on The Voice. However, it would have been nice to see them connect the end of the video to what happened as opposed to just walking away into the sunset. Did they turn into vampires? Were they affected at all? Anyhoo, the guys looked great as usual and the song will be a great summer track and continues the energy of “Glad You Came.” Let us know what you think and be sure to go pick up the EP and support them!!

I only have one photo in my head… and these three gentleman aren’t in it! News broke today that veteran pannel members of  America’s Next Top Model fame will NOT be returning for  Cycle 18 of the long running Tyra Banks produced reality show.

Banks took to her Facebook to confirm the news stating

“To my Nigel Barker, Miss J, and Mr Jay: Thank you for all of our years together on America’s Next Top Model,” Banks wrote. “Working with you is always an absolute pleasure. Excited for what the future holds for us.”

While there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between the crew, it’s interesting nonetheless for the show to can 3 figures who have been integral to the brand since its 2003 inception.

Earlier this week, we hinted that Beyonce would be forming her own social media site for her fans. And *drumroll* the day is finally here!! Today, Queen Bey revealed her new site Beyonce.com and looking at it now it’s definitely going to stir up a buzz amongst all of her fans. On the site, Beyonce describes her site as the “Beyhive…the official fan collective by the fans, for the fans, here for bey.” There’s a part of the site that also tells you what kind of Bee you are; you can choose a honeybee, bumblebee, or a digger bee. A nice touch to this site is that Bey actually shares intimate photos of her life on the official tumblr page as well as behind the scenes videos and performances(one of my favorite pics is one of Jay wrapping his arms around her). This is an interesting transition for Bey who’s kind of shied away from social media over the years and never really taken as full advantage of it as other artists have. The Beyhive has gone mad upon hearing their queen may be joining one of their favorite destinations! Someone realized that  Beyonce.Tumblr.com has been set up recently! Unfortunately,the blog is password protected at the moment ( and no, neither “Blue Ivy”, “King Bey” , “Fuck Keri Hilson” or “I Wrote This Song” unlocked the magical tumblr kingdom on our attempts), but it’ll be quite interesting to see if Beyoncé chooses to embrace social media with her next promotional endeavors after completely ignoring the medium during promotion for her last album, 4

Beyoncé is no stranger to tumblr however, she and husband Jay-Z used the platform to debut pictures of their beautiful new born daughter Blue Ivy a few months back!

The ad has since been pulled by Burger King, though the company claims the pull is due to music licensing issues with Universal Music Group, the parent company of Mary’s record label(the chicken wrap song is a remix of Mary’s “Don’t Mind” off her latest album My Life II).

For starters, yes the ad is so hilariously bad but in a weird roundabout way that makes it hilarious good. But no, its not bad because Mary J. Blige, a black woman, is singing about crispy fried chicken. Yes, stereotypes are bad but as a black person, I can honestly say I’ve never met another black person who has ever uttered a bad word about fried chicken. *Shrugs*

This particular ad wasn’t a good move for Mary but it has more to do with how Mary and her team have positioned her brand thus far, than it does with racial connotations surrounding black people and chicken. Furthermore, the whole way the commercial was shot makes it seem like we’re laughing at Mary rather than with her. But again, these aren’t racial issues, these are branding issues.

Secondly, black folks have been singing about food for the longest! I don’t recall y’all complaining when

- Ella Fitzgerald sang about KFC’s finger lickin’ good fried chicken in 1982

- We all laughed at McDonalds when they had their R&B McNuggets commercial

- R&B star Dwele promoted McDonald’s McCafe line of coffee a few years back

You would’ve thought Mary was selling Watermelon and Grits snack packs the way folks are carrying on. There wouldn’t be all this commotion if they got a regular singer/actress to sing this part. People need to differentiate their dislike for ad based on the fact that its not a good look for this particular artist from the idea that it wouldn’t be a good look for any black person to sing it.  As for pulling the ad, what sense does that make? We’ve all already seen it and even if they don’t play it on TV, someone is still going to continue to upload it on Youtube so we can laugh. Nonetheless, Mary reportedly pocketed a cool $2 million for this commercial….if that’s setting black people back then by all means, set me back and sign me up!  Excuse me while I spend the next few months randomly humming about CRISPY CHICKEN…FRESH LETTUCE…THREE CHEESES…FRESH DRESSING…WRAPPED UP…IN…A…TASTY…FLOUR…TORTILLA”
